About me
I am Michael Brook, a Photographer who primarily focuses on nature photography. I was born in South Africa in 2004 and have lived in Africa, Asia and Europe. From first picking up a camera at the age of 18, I found a new way to marvel at nature. Providing a more personal perspective and close up interaction with the animals and landscape of the natural world.
Currently living in Wales I am becoming more and more aware of the small and constant interactions with the natural world of which society seems to continuously under-appreciate. One of my main goals as a photographer is to capture the splendour of the natural world and bring its brilliance into the hands of the everyday person so more people see nature’s place in our ever growing world.
My current favourite photos consist of ones taken in natural locations closer to home, places accessible by bicycle or a pleasant walk. These include different bird species from gannets, kingfishers and cormorants to the more widespread rabbits, spiders and a number of different waterfowl. I look forward to planning more trips in the near future to explore a greater breadth of nature; whether back in the rainforests of southeast Asia or a much dreamed of trip to the frostier Scandinavian countries. Be that as it may, I also have a few local projects I am excited to explore.
In addition to my love for nature, I have been broadening my expertise to different styles of photography from brand shoots to the action of sporting masterclasses, even some events for university graduations and churches around the nearby city. This is an area of photography I am excited to include in my portfolio, and have therefore not shared exclusively nature shots, though it remains my main passion and focus.
Over the next coming year my goals are to further explore the photographical world and capture memories and moments for all to see and share in. There are a number of photography competitions I wish to enter and explore as well as looking to further network and connect with photographers around the country and the world. I am self taught, and still relatively new to photography, leading to a fresh perspective and unique eye for the stand out shot. I truly hope people are able to enjoy my photography as much as I have enjoyed exploring it myself.
